Students started this quarter by working on an introduction to the Elements of Art project. They started by completing a line drawing of their shoe. Then separating the paper into 6 sections. Each section was devoted to a different element. We focused on: line, color, shape, space, texture, and value. Student examples are below: 2nd hour artwork:8th hour artwork:7th grade used a foam block to carve out a face with lots of expression. 7th grade worked on making a realistic value drawing of pumpkins using charcoal. 7th grade used what they learned about the Surrealist Movement to create their own surrealist work. They had to complete a shading worksheet and hand sketches to prepare for this project. They had to include 3 hands, shading values, and one color into the landscape of their choice. Check them out below: 2nd hour artwork:8th hour artwork:7th grade finished their tiki sculptures. Students had to first make two different sketches with lot of expression, then the best sketch was chosen for their final. They sculpted the sculptures out of floral foam- our class was a mess! Then they painted the surface and added more detail. They turned out great and are displayed in the library.
